Greene County, Paton-Churdan both sending entries to state speech contest

Greene County will be well-represented at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s state large group speech competition. Five groups from Greene County High School and a group from Paton-Churdan earned I ratings and the district contest at Des Moines Hoover High School Jan. 24. They will compete again at the state contest Feb. 7 at West Des Moines Valley High School.  

Greene County groups qualifying for the state contest are Musical Theatre, Lucy Vander Linden and Carter Petterson; Group Improv, Savannah Lansman, Aden Bardole and Lucy Vander Linden; Choral Reading, Natalie Towers, London Harris, Evelyn Snyder, Becca Anderson, Savannah Lansman, and Olivia Smith; Reader’s Theatre, an all-freshmen group of Jaelynn Hedges, Teagan Warnke, Jordy Hilnote, Ava Hinote, Alaina Gettler, Gabe Gerzema, Eli Hardawahy, Eliza Elliott and Cheyenne Clouse; and One-Act, Aden Bardole, Olivia Sebourn, Ella Ostrander, Lynnsay Choate, Logan Edwards and Calleigh Fitzpatrick.

Greene County speech coaches are Kelley Gray and Darren Jackson.

Paton-Churdan only entry, a choral reading, qualified for the state contest as well. Anastasia Hobbs, Bridget Hobbs, Catarina Hobbs, Ella Tasler, Alivya Smith, Edynn Smith, Liy Trecker, Kaliyah Minnihan, Phoenix Hartman and Maggie Reed comprise the group.
